4/1/ 2021: Two vaccines have been approved in India by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Sunday. Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield developed by Pune Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
First phase of vaccination in Puducherry will cover 14,000 health workers ; after that frontline workers including police and govt staff involved in Covid duties will be vaccinated. 29 centres in Pondicherry will be opened for vaccination. After health workers, those above 50 and those below 50 with serious co-morbidities will be prioritised. Detailed instructions from health ministry for public vaccination is awaited.
4/1/2021: Schools in Pondy opened half-day after 9 months. Attendance is based on parental consent. Some private schools have decided to continue online classes. The government plans to resume regular full-day classes from January 18.

2/1/2021: Covid-19 vaccine dry run (test run) was held in all states and union territories including at 9 centres in the union territory of Puducherry. Health workers participated in the dry run. Health workers, frontline workers, people above 50 will be the first to get vaccinated.

31/ 12: Schools in Puducherry and Karaikal will reopen on January 4 for regular classes for Std I to XII from 10 am- 1 pm, Mon- Saturday. Attendance is based on parental consent. Masks, thermal screening, distancing to be followed.
31/ 12: Sabarimala pilgrims from Pondicherry can get free RT-PCR tests and Covid-19 negative certificates: CM. Pilgrims going to Sabarimala have to book online and present Covid negative certificates after taking RT-PCR tests, according to Kerala govt rules.
30/12: No permission for DJ parties in Pondicherry at hotels/ bars/ resorts/ restaurants. Beach Road celebrations in Puducherry will go ahead with social distancing and masks. Limited entry based on first come basis to ensure social distancing among various restrictions announced by District administration & Puducherry Police .

23/ 12/: Sample of the passenger who returned from UK & tested positive for Covid at #Chennai airport sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune for genome sequencing. Passengers seated close to him on Delhi-Chennai flight including 1 from Puducherry are in quarantine.
22/12: Puducherry CM says New Year celebrations on Beach Roadcan go ahead with masks & social distancing. Hotels can hold NYE celebrations limited to 200 people. Midnight masses for Christmas also allowed. The CM’s statement contradicts the order issued earlier this week by the district collector (citing a Supreme Court judgement) that no permission will be given for gatherings or celebrations for upcoming festivals. Neighbouring states including Tamil Nadu & Karnataka have banned such public celebrations due to the pandemic.

16/ 12: New DGP for Puducherry : Ranvir Singh Krishnia, Delhi Special Commissioner of Police (L & O), will replace Balaji Srivastava who has been transferred to Delhi.
After almost 10 months, schools in Puducherry will re-open full day from JANUARY 18 for students of all classes right from Class I. Schools will be open half-day from January 4 onwards with classes for students interested in clarifying doubts. Colleges will open only for final year students from December 17. Detailed SOP with Covid protocols for institutions will be released.
Pondicherry Municipality has published the list of Property Tax defaulters (above Rs. 10,000) on their website here Names of defaulters have been published as a warning before initiating penal action.
