These are the Covid restrictions for Puducherry till Jan 31

Puducherry has announced new Covid restrictions that will come into immediate effect and remain till January 31. These are in addition to existing guidelines announced by the government following a surge in Covid cases and detection of the Omicron variant in Puducherry.  Here are the full list of Covid restrictions for Puducherry for January 2022

Entering Pondicherry

E-pass/ RT-PCR is not required. But proof of atleast one dose of Covid vaccination required to enter Pondy from January 10 onwards. Surveillance teams at checkpoints on the border will check for vaccination proof and also screen passengers for Covid symptoms.

Night Curfew :

Night curfew from 11 pm – 5 am (Exemption for Vaikunta Ekadasi on January 13)

Educational Institutions

NEW: FROM JAN 10: School will be closed for Classes 1 to 9 from January 10 onwards until further orders. Classes will be continue to be held online for Std 1 to 9. Offline/ physical classes will continue for Classes 10, 11 and 12 in compliance with proper SOP.

Other institutions to function as per the order of Directorate of School Education / Higher Education

Beach Road & Parks:

Open all times except during night curfew (11 pm – 5 am)

Public Transport

Only 50 % seating permitted on inter district and intra- district buses.

No buses to Tamil Nadu on Sunday due to total lockdown in Tamil Nadu.

Shops, Dining & Recreation

Only 50 % seating at a time allowed/  50% customers permitted at

  • Malls, market complexes and shops (to ensure adequate ventilation or reduced number of customers )
  • Restaurants, hotels, bars, liquor shops, hospitality sector establishments -with strict compliance of Covid protocols.
  • Cinemas, theatres, multiplexes
  • Auditoriums
  • Salons, spas, beauty parlours
  • Gyms, yoga centres

Government departments, private businesses and educational institutions have to ensure 100 % vaccination of their staff.

Places of Worship

  • Places of worship are open to public upto 10 p.m only. (Exemption on Vaikunta Ekadasi for temples)
  • Kumbabishegam and Kudamuzhaku shall be performed by priests of temples without participation of devotees.
  • Marriages inside temples /religious institutions : maximum 25 people allowed

Tourist Places:

Boat house etc open following strict Covid protocol

Events:

  • Social, cultural gatherings permitted subject to Covid appropriate behaviour (wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing, using sanitisers etc) being followed by all in the place of celebration. This is allowed in light of Pongal festival, National Youth Festival and other government functions.
  • Marriages: Maximum 100 guests permitted at any point of time
  • Funerals/ last rites: maximum 20 guests permitted at any point of time.
  • Exhibitions can be conducted with 50 % capacity of the venue at a time.
  • Film/ TV shooting permitted with maximum 100 people

Court

Only virtual hearings from January 3 onwards as per the order of the Madras High Court

Essential Services permitted without any time restrictions

  • Hospitals, Pharmacies, Medical labs, Opticians, Medicines/ medical equipments, ambulance, hearse vehicle, all medical and allied activities
  • Fire, emergency services, law and order, municipal services.
  • ATMs, Petrol pumps, Telecom, Internet, Cable, Media, IT, ITES, water, sanitation, electricity, cold storage, warehousing, private security.
  • Dairy/ milk supply and booths

These restrictions are by the order of the Lt Governor of Puducherry. Legal action will be initiated against those who violate these orders.
