Petrol and Diesel price in Puducherry union territory will go down by Rs. 1- Rs. 1. 40 from tomorrow. Lt. Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has directed slashing of VAT on petrol and diesel by 2 %
As of February 26, petrol price in Puducherry costs around Rs. 92. 50 per litre and Diesel costs around Rs. 86 per litre.
STEEP HIKE IN FUEL COSTS
There has been a steep hike in petrol since the Puducherry government hiked the VAT for petrol by 28 % and Diesel by 21. 8% on May 27 2020 for Pondy and Karaikal . 9 months ago before the hike, one litre petrol cost Rs. 69 and diesel cost Rs. 65.
The rates have continued to go up since then. Central and state governments have justified hiking VAT on fuel to fund COVID relief spending.
Earlier today, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das called upon central and state governments to cut down tax on fuel stating this could push up cost of manufacturing and transport in the country.
