What’s Open, What’s Closed and Covid-19 Guidelines for Puducherry in September. Following the Unlock 4 guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to contain the spread of Covid-19 and open up activities outside containment zones, Puducherry government has issued similar orders for September 1- September 30 . Here’s all you need to know

WHAT’S OPEN
- Shops, offices, hotels, establishments and private offices: 6 am- 8 p.m.
- Liquor stores (retail and wholesale) : Till 8 p.m
- Hotels & Restaurants dine-in Till 8 p.m.
- Take-away & Delivery: Till 9 p.m.
- Pharmacies & Milk booths: No restrictions
BEACH ROAD: Open from 5 am – 12 noon
NIGHT CURFEW Movement of individuals in vehicles is restricted between 10 pm – 5 am except for emergency & permitted purposes
BUSES: Government and private buses can now operate within Pondy and between districts of UT (Puducherry- Karaikal; Puducherry -Mahe Puducherry- Yanam etc)
WHAT’S CLOSED
- Schools, Colleges, University, Educational and Coaching Institutions. Online learning permitted
- Swimming pools
- Cinemas, Theatres & Entertainment Parks
- International Air Travel (except as permitted by MHA)
- Trains, buses and flights from Pondy to other states are not operational
ALLOWED FROM SEPTEMBER 21
- Marriages : 50 guests maximum; funerals: 20 . After September 21 maximum 100 allowed
- Maximum 100 people allowed for functions and gatherings : social/ academic/ sports/ entertainment/ cultural/ religious/ political functions with mandatory wearing of face masks, social distancing, thermal scanning and provision of hand wash or sanitizer
- Permissions for opening educational institutions for purposes mentioned below after SOP issued by Ministry of Home Affairs for:
1.) 50 % of teaching and non-teaching staff working at school
2.) Skill training, entrepreneurship and industrial training institutes
3,) Research students and PG students of technical/ professional programmes at universities/ colleges who are required to do lab/ experimental work .
All these may be allowed based on MHA & Puducherry govt decisions. Check back on September 20
LOCKDOWN AREAS
Will be updated after announced by district administration. The plan to lock down 32 areas has now been put on hold.
FAQS
Q: Is e-pass or permit required to enter Pondicherry ?
A: NO. As of August 23, e-pass system is suspended in Pondicherry. According to an order by MHA (Home Ministry), states can no longer restrict inter-state travel or movement of goods.
Q: Is there a lockdown on Tuesdays ?
NO. Total lockdown on Tuesdays was for the month of August.

OTHER GUIDELINES
- All persons above 65, those with co-morbidities, children below 10 and pregnant women are advised to stay home except for health and essential purposes
- Masks or face coverings are compulsory in public places, work places and during transport.
- Social distancing of 6 feet mandatory in public spaces
- Work places to encourage work from home as much as possible and follow staggering of shifts, thermal scanning etc in workplaces
