Bastille Day Celebrations in Pondicherry 2020 go virtual -on Facebook- due to Covid-19
Bastille Day also called as Fête Nationale is the French National Day. It marks the occasion of the storming of the Bastille Prison, which became one of the defining moments of the French Revolution. The national holiday is celebrated with a grand parade on Paris’s iconic Champs-Élysées and fireworks at the Eiffel Tower.
This year however due to Covid-19, Bastille Day Celebrations in France are toned-down and the tens of thousands of spectators that usually throng the streets will have to catch them on television or virtually. A smaller ceremony would be held at Place de la Concorde and this year the celebrations will pay tribute to Covid-19 frontline workers.
BASTILLE DAY PONDICHERRY
In Pondicherry, Bastille Day is usually marked with a grand ceremony at the French War Memorial , playing of bands and honouring of veterans and fireworks at the French Consulate. This year however due to Covid-19, the laying of the wreath at the French War Memorial will be live-streamed at 8.30 AM followed by a day-long line-up of virtual events including short films on the Facebook page of the Consulate General of France at Pondicherry & Chennai here
