What’s Open in Puducherry from April 20

The lockdown due to Covid-19 in India is extended till May 3 but non-hotspot areas like Pondicherry will see some relaxations in the lockdown from April 20. However, these relaxations do not apply in containment areas like Ariyankuppam, Thirubhuvanai – Thiruvandarkoil, Moolakulam and Muthialpet.

 

What’s Open in Puducherry

(Already Existing & New Relaxations)

  1. Milk Booths : 6 a.m –  6 p.m
  2. Vegetable Markets : Till 1 pm only
  3. Pharmacies 
  4. Grocery stores and stores selling essentials: Till 1 pm List of Pondicherry groceries, bakeries and shops open during lockdown
  5. Bakeries
  6. Poultry, meat and fish shops/ markets: Till 1 pm
  7. Agriculture and all related activities including agricultural machinery, seeds, fertilisers etc
  8. Plantations: Coffee- tea– rubber-cashew, bamboo, coconut, cocoa, spices  : harvesting/processing/packaging/sale and marketing
  9. Banks, ATMs, insurance and financial institutions like housing finance/ micro finance etc. Banks can follow normal working hours till direct benefit transfer (DBT) are complete.
  10. LPG Gas & Petrol Pumps (till 1 pm for public and 6pm for emergencies )
  11. Government offices to function with 33% staff and employees must wear mask and maintain social distancing 
  12. All health services including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, labs, veterinary hospitals, clinics and manufacturing of medicines and medical devices etc. Jipmer OPD only by telephone consultation for already registered patients who can contact 0413-2298200 to make an appointment. Patients will receive an SMS on their registered mobile number with date & time of telephone appointment.
  13. Electricians, carpenters, plumbers , motor mechanic and IT repairs etc- these services by self employed persons
  14. Construction – limited to public works, highways, rural areas. Inside city limits, only continuation of ongoing construction is  permitted if workers are available locally.
  15. Industries and factories are permitted to open after approval by strictly complying with physical distancing and other guidelines issued by government.

  17. Police, Fire, Traffic, Home Guards, Disaster Management, Prisons
  18. Sanitation, Electricity, Water
  19. Post office and postal services
  20. Print and electronic media including DTH, broadcasting and cable
  21. Telecom &  Internet service providers
  22. Data and call centres for govt activities only
  23. Private security services and facilities management for upkeep of offices and residential complexes
  24. Cold storage, warehousing, power generation & transmission
  25. Manufacturing units of essential commodities
  26. Movement, loading/unloading of goods and cargo
  27. Fishing -inland and marine

  29. Shops for truck repairs and dhabas on highway
  30. Social sector- homes for disabled/ children, widows , senior citizens, observation centres etc
  31. Anganwadis – beneficiaries cannot attend but distribution of nutritious food etc at doorstep to children, lactating moms  will take place
  32. MGNREGA work that provides employment for rural poor

Movement of persons allowed only for:

1. Emergencies including medical and veterinary care

2. Procuring essentials. One person on two-wheeler ; driver +1 passenger on backseat for 4-wheeler

3. Commuting to work and back home if it is under exempted category. Persons in home quarantine or containment areas cannot go to work outside.

What will remain closed 

  1. Schools, Colleges, coaching and training institutes
  2. Pondicherry University 
  3. Malls: Providence Mall and Pothys (Big Bazaar at mall and Pothys grocery superstore unit is open)
  4. Gyms , fitness centres , swimming pools and zumba studios
  5. Sports stadiums, sports academies, surf schools
  6. Cinema Theatres
  7. Clubs and Discotheques
  8. Museums & Art Galleries
  9. Sunday Market
  10. Cultural centres
  11. Bars
  12. Wholesale and retail liquor outlets
  13. Parks including Bharathi Park & Botanical Gardens (updated March 19 )
  14. Chunnambar Boat House
  15. Beach Road – Promenade/ Rock Beach (both pedestrian & vehicle traffic)
  16. Playgrounds & Lawspet Helipad
  17. Restaurants that cannot offer just takeaway
  18. Food delivery services like Swiggy/ Zomato
  19. All Shops and commercial activities except those stocking essentials
  20. All places of worship
  21. Sri Aurobindo Ashram & Matrimandir
  22. Airport, trains, port, road transport-  transport for essential goods exempted
  23. Buses for public transport
  24. Taxis and autos and cab aggregators like Ola , Uber etc

  26. Hotels & guest houses -except those accommodating tourists stranded during lockdown
  27. All social/ political/ sports/ religious/ entertainment/ academic /cultural gatherings and assemblies
